This month’s theme is Valentine’s Day!
今月のテーマはバレンタインデーです！
This holiday is popular in both the US and Japan.
アメリカと日本で、休日が人気がありますね。

The board also gives some English language facts such as a comparison of “candy” in the US and “candy” in Japan.
このボードには、アメリカの「キャンディ」と日本の「キャンディ」の比較など、英語の事実も見せられています。
Any chocolate or ame candy is called “candy” in the US!
アメリカではチョコレートや飴のことを「キャンディ」と呼びます！
Valentine gifts and receivers of those gifts can be called “Valentines”!
バレンタイン・ギフトとそれを受け取る人を「バレンタイン」と呼ぶことがあります！
The right side of the board gives some brief facts about the Valentines holiday in America.
ボードの右側には、アメリカのバレンタインデーに簡単な事実が見せられています。
Such as how anyone can give and receive a Valentine!
誰でもバレンタインをあげたりもらったりできることも含まれています！
For the second and first graders’ lessons, we did English colors and shapes!
2年生と1年生のレッスンでは、英語の色と形をしました！
The colors were a little easy because they were already familiar with the English names;
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, pink, black, white!
色はすでに英語の名前に慣れていたので、少し簡単でした；[レッド・オリンジ・イェロー・グリーン・ブルー・パープル・ブラウン・ピンク・ブラック・ワイト]。
So the kids got to practice saying 8 shapes in English, 18 words total were practiced!
子供たちは8つの形を英語で言う練習をし、合計18の単語を練習しました！
The next part was a game of Karuta.
次はカルタゲームです。

January is the start of a new year, so the English board’s theme is zodiac animals.
1月は新しい年の始まりということで、英語ボートのテーマは干支です。
The board shows each of their English pronunciations.
ボードにはそれぞれの英語の発音が見せています。
There are 12 zodiac animals.

This week’s lesson was about Christmas!
今週のレッスンはクリスマスについてでした！
For the activity, the students made Christmas themed pop-up cards.
アクティビティでは、クリスマスをテーマにしたポップアップカードを作りました。
They made origami trees and then decorated their cards with drawings and masking tape.
折り紙でツリーを作り、絵とマスキングテープでカードを飾りました。
When they finished, the students would write in English “Merry Christmas!”
それが終わると、生徒たちは英語で 「Merry Christmas!」と書きました。
It seems they had a lot of fun!
とても楽しかったようですね！
Many students even want to finish their cards outside class, since they ran out of time.
多くの生徒が、時間がなくなったので、授業の外でカードを仕上げたいです。
On the right board, students are given a chance to learn more about foreign cultures with the brief facts about Christmas in other countries.
右のボードには、他国のクリスマスについての簡単な事実が書かれており、生徒たちはもっと外国の文化について学ぶ機会を与えられています。
Christmas is celebrated in many countries, but here I covered Christmas in the US, Ireland, Germany, Ukraine, Brazil. Mexico, UK, South Africa, Taiwan, Korea, and Turkey.
クリスマスは多くの国で祝われるが、ここではアメリカ、アイルランド、ドイツ、ウクライナ、ブラジル、メキシコ、イギリス、南アフリカ、台湾、韓国、トルコのクリスマスを取り上げました。
On the left board is an English Advent Calendar with Christmas themed words for each day up to Christmas Eve!

On Tuesday, the third graders got to make pictures with shapes!

Using Loilonote they had to go up to each the teachers, and were asked:

Then the kids would respond:

November English board introduces the Thanksgiving holiday season in America!

The US has several major events in November, including a presidential election this year in 2024 and Veterans Day.

Thanksgiving is a very busy holiday season of traveling, parades, shopping, cooking, meeting family and friends, and eating!

There used to be several Thanksgiving celebrations throughout the year.

For centuries, many Native American tribes had their own harvest festivals across in North America.

I also included a dish my own family prefers to eat (because my mom doesn’t like turkey), Swedish meatballs on egg noodles!

Sixth graders began their lesson in Unit 6 “Save the animals”.
6年生はユニット6「動物を救おう」の授業が始まりました。
The students practiced saying where an animal is from and what problem the animal is facing.
生徒たちは、動物がどこから来たか、その動物が直面している問題を言う練習をしました。
For example: “Coral reefs live in the sea. Plastic is a big problem...”
例えば 「サンゴ礁は海に住んでいます。プラスチックは大きな問題です。」
Next class, the students will continue Unit 6 where they will independently practice writing.

This Monday the fourth graders finished their English alphabet textbook and reviewed English sounds with animals.
今週月曜日、4年生は英語のアルファベットの教科書を終え、動物を使って英語の音を復習しました。
The main class activity was learning about fruits.
主な授業は果物についての学習しました。
The students would make a fruit parfait by asking each other “what do you want?” and “I want...” to get the fruits to make their parfait.
生徒たちは「what do you want？」「I want...」(「何が欲しい？」「私は...」)と声を掛け合いながらフルーツパフェを作り、パフェを作るためのフルーツを手に入れました。
The students made some funny and tasty looking parfaits at the end!
生徒たちは最後に、面白くておいしそうなパフェを作りました！
This Friday, the 6th graders are continuing their lesson on “Where is it from?”
今週の金曜日、6年生は 「Where is it from? 」（「それがどこから来たのか 」）のレッスンを続けます。
They can choose something like a brand or food, then they must make a presentation.
ブランドや食べ物などを選び、プレゼンテーションをしなければなりません。
The students’ presentation must show the continent, describe the country, and finally name the country.
生徒のプレゼンテーションは、大陸を示し、その国を説明し、最後にその国の名前を挙げなければなりません。
Next class they will finish preparing their presentation about “Where is it from?” “where it’s from.”

On Tuesday, the third graders continued their lesson on the English alphabet.

Last week, the students searched for English letters in the classroom, this week, they made the letters themselves using only their bodies.
先週、児童は教室で英字を探したが、今週、自分の体だけを使って文字を作りました。
Using just their fingers, or their whole body, the students would make a letter then take a picture to show the class!
児童は指だけ、あるいは体全体を使って文字を作り、写真を撮ってクラスに見せました！
Last Tuesday the fifth graders presented to the class about at least one of their family members, friends or pets.
先週の火曜日、5年生は少なくとも1つ自分の家族、友達、ペットについてクラスで発表しました。
They used lolilonote to make a quick slideshow.

While I was there to help with difficult words, many of the students did very well on their own!
私は難しい単語を教える手助けをしましたが、学生の多くは一人でとても上手に発表していました！
On Wednesday, the 6th graders made a presentation about a country.
They had to show what you can see, eat, buy and enjoy in that country in English.
水曜日、6年生はある国についてのプレゼンテーションを作りました。
その国で、見たり、食べたり、買ったり、楽しんだりできるものを英語で発表しなければなりませんでした。
On Friday, the top three winners were announced at the beginning of the class.
金曜日には、クラスの冒頭で上位3名が発表されました。
For good presentation and speaking skills, the winners received big stickers.
プレゼンテーションと会話力が高く評価された入賞者には、大きなステッカーが贈られました。
The rest of the class also received smaller stickers for their hard work and practice on their English presentations.
他のクラスも、英語プレゼンテーションの練習に励み、小さなステッカーをもらいました。
Everyone did an excellent job!

On Tuesday the third graders practiced speaking using the topic: “what’s your favorite number?”
水曜日、3年生はトピックを使って話すことの練習をしました：「好きな数字は何ですか？ 」
We started with asking around the class:
まず、クラスのみんなに聞くことから始めました：
“What’s your favorite number?”
And each student had to respond with:
そして各学生はこう答えなければならなかった：
“I like ____”
Then after the students enjoyed a nursey rhyme song, they played karuta with numbers.
その後、学生たちは英語の童謡を楽しんだ後、数字カルタで遊びました。
They put their hands on their heads until I said the number.
私が番号を言うまで、子供達は頭に手を置いていました。
The last game let the children run around the classroom as music played.
最後のゲームでは、音楽が流れる中、子供達は教室中を走り回りました。
Once the music stopped, Miki-sensei would say “my favorite number is ___” and the children would get in groups of the number she said.
音楽が止まると、美希先生は「my favorite number is ___」と言って、学生達は彼女が言った番号に基づいてグループになります。
(E.g: “My favorite number is 3” so they get in groups of 3)
(例：「My favorite number is 3」だから3人1組になる）
They had lots of fun!
